Thank you for your generous support and participation! The Moravian Church of Downey hosted a 5k run/walk on June 14, 2008 to help rebuild what was destroyed when category
5 hurricane Felix hit Nicaragua last September. Many thanks to all who participated in the 5k
as a runner, walker, volunteer, donor or sponsor. Your participation helped make our first 5k a success! Your contribution
helps in the rebuilding of Doris Robb Gabay primary school in Puerto Cabezas, as well as with cleaning and rebuilding
efforts in the devastated villages of Sukatpin, Yulu Tingni, Auhya Pihni, Wawa Bum and Dakban and contributes to the support
of the youth led “New Strength for Nicaragua” mission sharing fellowship through milling wood to clean up and
use for rebuilding.
We wanted to get involved with helping Moravian Board of World Mission (BWM) rebuild what Felix destroyed in these
Nicaraguan villages because members of our church visited the area shortly after the hurricane and have family members in
Nicaragua. The photos they shared are moving.

We've been so excited to hear about all the other
congregations in the Western District of the Moravian Church who have been involved in rebuilding what hurricane Felix destroyed
in Nicaragua. Many thanks to the Sturgeon Bay congregation and those who participated in the WD6 Mission Trip for your
work and for sharing your pictures and experiences with the Moravian Church of Downey.
Are you looking forward to participating again next
year? Fastastic! We're planning on making this 5k an annual event to be held the closest
Saturday to Flag Day. Check out www.downeymoravian.org starting early Spring 2009 for information on the 5k event and our new mission cause.
Help us plan for next year by emailing your comments about this year's 5k to Rebuild What
Felix Destroyed to info@5ktoRWFD.com.
